Globe Telecom of the Philippines has lit a new international cable landing station in Nasugbu, the landing site of the USD400 million Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC) system, over which Globe holds exclusive rights as the ‘landing party’ in the country. The SJC system spans 8,300km connecting Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan, and uses wavelength transmission technology designed for 17Tbps – upgradeable to 23Tbps; between 1.2Tbps and 2Tbps will be directed through the Philippine’s section. Globe’s Head of Globe Carrier Services Gil B. Genio said: ‘The Nasugbu international gateway has been a key driver of economic development and employment. By now there are alternative cable landing stations but Nasugbu has been the pioneer and we return to celebrate the opening of yet another facility that will cement Nasugbu’s place in the Philippine telecommunication history.’
