Filipino operator Globe Telecom has submitted a request to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for additional frequencies to support the expansion and development of its broadband services portfolio. The Philippine Star quotes Globe’s head of network technologies strategy, Emmanuel Estrada, as saying that the telco has applied for additional bandwidths including 2×20MHz in the 700MHz band, 10MHz in the 2100MHz band and another 10MHz of 3G frequency. If successful in its application, the new frequencies will all be used for broadband, Estrada said. Globe Telecom has previously revealed that it is eyeing Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology to support its mobile broadband offering. ‘However, the limited spectrum and devices with enough capabilities are stopping us from completely rolling out the service,’ the official is quoted as saying.
