12 Nov 2010

Spanish fixed wireless operator Nostracom Telecommunications has awarded a new contract to Aperto Networks for additional fixed WiMAX networks in the regions of Andalusia, Seville and Asturias. Deployment will begin this quarter and continue through into next year.

TeleGeography’s 4G research service reports that Nostracom launched its first WiMAX services in January 2010 in Malaga and has since expanded its reach to include rural communities in the Andalusian provinces of Almeria, Granada and Jaen. In March Nostracom began deploying WiMAX in Asturias via a project co-financed by the Principality of Asturias, which has given a grant of EUR1.49 million (USD1.25 million) towards the EUR3.6 million cost of the deployment.
