Vodafone Spain launches IPTV offering

11 Nov 2010

Vodafone Spain has inaugurated its IPTV service commercially, according to ADSLzone, offering it free of charge to those customers signed up to its 20Mbps ADSL broadband connection. As part of a launch promotion, those subscribers that have Vodafone’s 6Mbps broadband option meanwhile will be offered the IPTV option, which is being marketed simply as Vodafone Internet TV, free for the first three months after which it will cost EUR5 (USD6.88) per month. Both 20Mbps and 6Mbps customers will also need to purchase a decoder for EUR39 in order to access the service. Soccer channel Gol TV will also be offered without charge for the remainder of the 2010/2011 season as part of the launch campaign.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Vodafone announced in September 2010 that it was aiming to introduce its own IPTV service, and the following month confirmed that it did not plan to produce its own content, and instead would rely on the country’s existing free-to-air and subscription channels.
