Latvia’s ECO asks for explanation over Tele2’s LTE test claims

11 Nov 2010

Latvia’s Electronic Communications Office (ECO) has called on mobile network operator Tele2 (Latvia) to explain recent local press reports that claimed the cellco had carried out trials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. According to DB.lv, the ECO has pressed Tele2 to clarify its activities following comments made by its technical director Ervin Kampans to another local media outfit, Nazare.lv. In the report in question Mr Kampans allegedly claimed that his company had conducted trials of the 4G technology in Liepaja and Daugavpils. ECO spokesperson Laura Dabare argued that such tests would have ‘violated conditions of [Tele2’s] permit’.
