Videotron posts 3Q figures; too early to assess mobile take-up

Quebec-based quadruple-play cableco Videotron added 32,000 broadband subscribers in the third quarter of 2010 to reach a total of 1.234 million high speed users at the end of September, alongside 33,000 net additions in the fixed telephony segment and 40,000 new TV customers to give totals of 1.098 million and 1.802 million subscribers, respectively. Having launched its own HSPA-based mobile network in selected parts of Quebec during September, and terminating new activations on its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service, Videotron logged 8,400 net additions to its mobile base in the third quarter, bringing the total to 95,400 subscribers, including existing MVNO users. The group said that numbers would have been higher if it had been able to fully meet demand for smartphones. ‘Our mobile services have been available to nearly 70% of our customers since our September launch,’ a spokesperson said, adding, ‘We will continue building out our network in the rest of the province in order to achieve our key coverage objectives in Quebec in the coming months.’
