Australian alternative broadband provider iiNet has announced that, having soft-launched its IPTV service back in July 2010, it is rolling out the product as a full commercial offering. According to Australian IT, while initially the telco only marketed the service via an online campaign with a view to containing uptake, iiNet chief technical officer Greg Bader has confirmed that more widespread advertising has commenced, with the first TV spot now having been aired. Offered in partnership with FetchTV, which is backed by Malaysia’s Astro All Asia Networks, following the initial low-key launch phase around 1,000 customers are thought to have signed up to the service. FetchTV CEO Scott Lorson said of the move to increase awareness of the product: ‘We believe that we will see significant uptake as awareness grows and people understand the proposition.’
FetchTV has partnership agreements with two other Australian ISPs – Adam Internet and Internode.
