Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has claimed that it has already signed up 100,000 wireless broadband subscribers after relaunching its 3G mobile and WiMAX-based services last month over upgraded core infrastructure. Without giving an exact breakdown, the company revealed that much of the demand was for the ‘On the Go’ W-CDMA/HSPA-based mobile internet service aimed at handset users. CEO Douglas Mboweni said Econet was ‘astounded but delighted by the better-than-expected demand.’
