Vietnam reports telecoms revenue, subscriber figures

According to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office (GSO), state-owned incumbent telecoms operator Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) generated revenue of VND67.5 trillion (USD3.4 billion) in the ten months ended 31 October 2010, an increase of 25.9% year-on-year, Viet Nam Business news reports. Turnover in the Vietnamese telecoms and post sector as a whole totalled VND104 trillion in the first ten months of 2010, up 28.3% compared to the same period a year earlier. The GSO also revealed that a total of 35 million new telephony customers were signed up during the ten-month period – an increase of 5.4% year-on-year – of which 770,000 were new fixed line phone users and 34.5 million were mobile subscribers. According to the GSO, Vietnam was home to 160.8 million wireline and wireless telephony users at 31 October 2010, a year-on-year rise of 40.2%.
