Global Village Telecom picks Ericsson to deploy pay-TV

2 Nov 2010

Brazilian fixed line and broadband services provider Global Village Telecom (GVT) has selected Ericsson of Sweden to roll out its new pay-TV platform, prior to the planned launch of commercial services in 2011. Ericsson beat off rival bids from no fewer that 18 other firms to secure the contract, enabling GVT to move ahead with its plan to offer a range of broadcast channels, as well as video-on-demand (VoD), internet access, and interactive services such as catch-up TV. With the Ericsson supply contract now concluded, GVT is now looking to launch three more competitive tenders to cover teleport and satellite infrastructure, and later this year, the supply of set-top boxes.
