Telecom Italia Sparkle extends Seabone with new IP POP in Hong Kong

1 Nov 2010

Telecom Italia Sparkle (Sparkle), the international services arm of Telecom Italia, has announced that its global IP backbone Seabone now has a point of presence in Hong Kong. The new addition strengthens Sparkle’s IP transit proposition in Asia and consolidates its position in South East Asia. In the region TI Sparkle is already a major player in the IP and data services market through extensive ownership of capacity in various submarine cable systems, including the upcoming IMEWE which will connect India to Italy via the Gulf.

TI Sparkle’s new IP POP in Hong Kong is connected westbound to Seabone’s European leg via Singapore, and eastbound to the US portion of TI Sparkle’s global IP backbone, thus allowing customers to optimise traffic distribution. ‘We want our customers to enjoy the highest quality of internet connectivity’ said Paolo Ferrari, CEO of TI Sparkle, ‘and therefore we are continuously improving our IP backbone in terms of technology, architecture and reach’.
