PT Telkom posts near 4% fall in 9M10 net profit

1 Nov 2010

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) booked net profits of IDR8.93 trillion (USD1 billion) for the January-September 2010 period, down 3.97% or IDR367 billion compared to the IDR9.30 trillion recorded in the first nine months of 2009. In a press release last Friday, the telco attributed the fall to a decline in the profit from exchange rate margin by IDR644 billion. Group consolidated income reached IDR52.1 trillion though, up 3.9% year-on-year, in a period in which Telkom saw its total customer base growing to 118.2 million by 30 September. Of these, cellular subscribers for 65%-owned unit PT Telkomsel reached 93.1 million consisting of 2.1 million post-paid and 91.0 pre-paid users. Income from cellular services climbed 2.6% (or IDR552 billion) y-o-y, while revenues derived from fixed telephone services dropped 8.8%, or IDR952 billion. Telkom said the number of fixed telephones installed was relatively stable at 8.3 million while fixed-wireless (FWA/Flexi) fixed connections rose to 16.8 million by end-September. However, it was broadband internet users that marked the strongest growth, increasing 155% y-o-y to 6.4 million while income from consolidation of data and internet services climbed by 23.1%. Commenting on this development, the company’s president Rinaldi Firmansyah said: ‘In the third quarter, data, internet and IT services made a record of becoming the company’s important growth driver.’
