Network solutions provider Ciena Corporation has announced that Vietnam’s largest telecommunications carrier, Vietnam Telecoms National (VTN), will deploy its 40Gbps optical networking solution to support growing capacity demands on its nationwide optical backbone. The network upgrade will enable VTN to seamlessly deliver a portfolio of advanced service offerings and continue to grow its subscriber base across all market segments. The solution will upgrade VTN’s existing 10Gbps national backbone across country sites to 40Gbps to help the operator keep up with Vietnam’s rise in mobile and broadband traffic. ‘As we look to implement a significant network upgrade, we needed a painless migration strategy from our existing 10Gbps infrastructure to accommodate much higher demands on our network,’ said Luong Manh Hoang, managing director of VTN, adding: ‘Ciena’s solution met our immediate needs to achieve 40Gbps capacity while offering a forward-looking evolution path to 100Gbps with proven technology and field experience, allowing us to address the growing capacity requirements of our network today and preparing us to meet future needs.’ According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, VTN manages the domestic infrastructure of Vietnam’s state-owned incumbent telco, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), which stretches 6,000km across the whole of the country.
