Russia-based mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has announced that its consolidated subscriber base totalled 100.56 million as at 30 September 2010, a 3.8% improvement on the 96.86 million recorded a year earlier. According to MTS its subscriber base grew by exactly a million during September 2010. MTS’ domestic unit added 970,000 subscribers in the year to September, to 69.67 million, maintaining its dominance of the Russian market. However, it was MTS Uzbekistan that saw the largest subscriber increase of all, adding 1.37 million subscribers year-on-year, to reach 8.16 million in total. MTS Ukraine’s subscriber base hit 18.15 million at the end of Q310, up 370,000, while Karabakh Telecom in Armenia saw its subscriber base rise 5.5% to 2.19 million. MTS Belarus claimed 4.64 subscribers, up by 2.7%, while MTS Turkmenistan achieved the largest proportional increase of all MTS’ subsidiaries, growing its subscriber base by 58.9%, finishing the quarter with 2.39 million customers. MTS has yet to release any financial data for the quarter.
