Fanoos selects Aptilo solution for WiMAX rollout

27 Oct 2010

Aptilo Networks has announced it will deploy its WiMAX CSN System for Kurdistan-based Fanoos Telecom’s new WiMAX network in northern Iraq. Aptilo’s solution provides service management, access control (including intelligent roaming), policy management and advanced billing capabilities for wireless and fixed networks. It enables full interoperability between the various WiMAX vendors and products involved in the Fanoos deployment, delivering scalability and streamlining costs. The solution will also help to enable a future Wi-Fi hotspot network, providing a cost-effective means to connect Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Iraq, using WiMAX infrastructure as backhaul. ‘Aptilo’s WiMAX solution allows us to roll out the network very quickly, and positions us well for future network expansion, including into a secondary business model of offering Wi-Fi hotspots,’ said Hiwa Rauf, CEO at Fanoos Telecom, adding: ‘Aptilo’s proven technology is ideal for this large-scale, growing network, which we hope to build into the largest in Iraq.’ Fanoos will begin deployment of its WiMAX network in Sulaymaniyah, Mosul and Kirkuk, utilising the existing tower infrastructure of mobile operator Asiacell. Rollout is slated for completion by the end of the year.
