The CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), Greg Young, has given an update on the ongoing expansion and transformation of the incumbent telco’s traditional PSTN network to a Next Generation Network (NGN. In an interview with the island’s Sunday Times business section, Young disclosed that SLT will extend its high speed fibre-optic transmission network by a total of 10,000km by the end of this year, and will add another 5,000km of fibre next year, covering the entire island including the North and East provinces. Meanwhile, SLT is going ahead with a programme of replacing its legacy network equipment with all-IP systems.
