Anatel re-opens universal service consultation until 1 November

25 Oct 2010

Brazilian watchdog Anatel has re-opened a public consultation on universal telecoms services obligations for basic fixed line telephony providers until 1 November 2010. The proposed General Plan on Universal services (PGMU III) is designed to cover the period 2011-2015, leaving just two months for the regulator to analyse the contributions and gain approval for the plans from its Board and the Advisory Council, before the communications ministry prepares the draft decree on universal services, which must be signed by the president. The schedule must be adhered to, to allow the signing of revised operator concession contracts, local website Telesintese reports. The previous consultation period related to the issue of universal services garnered 272 responses for review by Anatel.
