Telkomvision, a pay-TV operator in Indonesia managed by PT Indonusa Telemedia, itself a subsidiary of state telecommunication company PT Telkom, yesterday launched a pre-paid offer in the country in a bid to ramp up its subscriber base. The company is looking to boost its total users to 500,000 by end-2010 up from 300,000 at the end of 2009. The Jakarta Post quotes Telkomvision president Elvizar KH as saying that the pre-paid system will create more flexibility for subscribers in terms of selecting TV programme packages. ‘Subscribers will buy [a] voucher and choose TV programmes packages like news, education, sport at various prices,’ he said, with prices ranging from IDR50,000 to IDR300,000 (USD5.66 to USD33.96). Vouchers are valid for one month, he said. Telkomvision is also developing a direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV platform which it hopes to launch before the end of this year.
