22 Oct 2010

Having received final approval from anti-monopoly authorities to merge Ukraine’s largest cellco by subscribers, Kyivstar, with fellow domestic operators Ukrainian Radio Systems and Golden Telecom (both branded as Beeline Ukraine) under the umbrella of the Vimpelcom group, the president of Kyivstar, Igor Litovchenko, has announced that the Beeline brand will be completely withdrawn from the Ukrainian market by the end of 2011. According to Litovchenko, the Russian-owned brand will be dropped in favour of the Kyivstar trademark for mobile, broadband and fixed line services, as part of the process of integrating the three companies which is due to finish by the end of 2013. According to a report by local newspaper Delo, by the end of this year Kyivstar will launch a new nationwide mobile roaming service for subscribers of Beeline, and also bring to market on-net tariff plans for subscribers of both GSM networks.
