Unlucky seven: illegal telecoms exchanges raided

21 Oct 2010

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have jointly conducted seven raids in Lahore against ‘illegal telecom exchanges involved in terminating grey traffic’, reports The Nation newspaper. According to PTA officials, the simultaneous raids – said to form one of the largest such operations in recent times – resulted in the confiscation of a ‘huge’ number of gateways, GSM-based switches, routers, PCs and other accessories, whilst two people were apprehended. The regulator added that its actions were a result of constant monitoring of ‘grey’ telecoms traffic.
