Unicom surpasses ten million 3G user milestone

The number of China Unicom’s 3G users increased by 1.04 million in September, boosting its total to 10.55 million. The operator’s 2G user base increased by 801,000 during the month, higher than the increase of 682,000 in August, taking the total number to 151.51 million. The number of fixed line telephone users continued to decrease, falling by 410,000 in September, to end the month with 99.701 million, while the number of its broadband users increased by 618,000 to 45.982 million.

Meanwhile, China Telecom has announced its own operational data for the end of September, revealing that it added 3.04 million wireless customers to its ranks during the month, to take its total to 82.98 million. It has still to announce information on how many of the total were connected to its CDMA2000 1x EV-DO 3G network. Telecom saw its fixed broadband base increase by just over a million during the month, while its fixed line total dipped by 790,000 to 178.28 million.
