Sparkle, the international services arm of Telecom Italia, has announced that ‘Seabone’, its global internet backbone has launched a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the Evoswitch data centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The new PoP is reportedly a response to Europe’s bandwidth-hungry content providers, who are in need of increased co-location space and improved transmission facilities. Sparkle already boasts PoPs in Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and South America. According to Sparkle, Seabone ranks as the premier source of internet traffic in the Mediterranean region, and the third largest in Europe as a whole.
Sparkle CEO Paolo Ferrari commented: ‘We want our customer to enjoy the highest quality of internet connectivity, and therefore we intend to continue to reinforce our IP transit service ‘Seabone’ with new content worldwide. Today more than 50% of our customers’ traffic is managed on-net and is never carried through the public internet, therefore we are able to provide full end-to-end quality control throughout the whole path. We are proud to provide our customers with the best internet experience’.
