Serbian government to offer majority stake in Telekom Srbija

Having initially indicated it was planning to sell a 40% stake in fixed line incumbent Telekom Srbija, Reuters is reporting that the Serbian government will now sell a majority holding in the telco. It is understood that the state is now planning to divest a 51% stake in the operator, while a further 15% stake will be distributed to around five million citizens across the country. A statement made by the government confirming its intentions noted that the finance ministry would lead the ’sale process, setting of the minimal price of shares and the choosing of a strategic partner.’

Last month CommsUpdate reported that the proposed sale of a 40% stake in Telekom Srbija attracted three bids from international telcos: Deutsche Telekom, Egypt’s Orascom Telecom and Turk Telecom. France Telecom and Telekom Austria have also now been named as two further potential buyers.
