COAI reports Indian GSM subscriber numbers for September 2010

The number of subscribers signed up to GSM-based mobile voice services in India rose to more than 494 million at the end of September 2010, according to industry body the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), as reported by India’s Economic Times. The trade body noted that subscriber additions were down on the previous month, with the country registering 12.4 million new GSM customers in September compared to 13.5 million in August. Of the September total, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) recorded the highest increase, 2.3 million, while Uninor, a subsidiary of Norwegian telecoms group Telenor, had the second-highest additions in the period, signing up 2.17 million new subscribers.
