Vodafone UK has inked a deal with Cognatel to set up a new mobile virtual network aggregator (MVNA) with a view to targeting new mobile brands focused at the UK ethnic markets and other niche sectors. According to Mobile News, Cognatel, which is a sister company of fixed line provider DigiTalk, has already agreed the soft-launch for a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) venture with international calling card brand iCard, while discussions are reportedly also underway with two more potential virtual operators. Cognatel has claimed that it is able to launch MVNOs using its platform in a six-week period compared to the normal approximate six-month rollout period, while it also said the investment required for introducing services is also significantly lower. Commenting on the new partnership, Vodafone UK’s director of business development and wholesale Tim Stone noted: ‘Our partnership with Cognatel strengthens Vodafone’s MVNO portfolio and maintains our focus in an area which offers excellent opportunities for everyone involved.’
