VNPT to offer mobile TV

11 Oct 2010

Following the successful launch of its IPTV service last year, Vietnam’s state-owned incumbent fixed line operator Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) is planning to extend the offering to mobile phones during 2011. RapidTVNews reports that VNPT’s ‘MyTV’ service has attracted over 150,000 subscribers since launch in September 2009, which the operator said was double its original expectations. MyTV currently offers over 60 domestic and international channels and is available in 63 cities and provinces across the country.

In a separate story, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has announced that a total of VND5.18 trillion (USD265 million) will be allocated to state-owned companies for infrastructure development in 2011. Vietnam Economic Times reports that VND60 billion of the total has been earmarked for VNPT, while Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the parent company of CDMA fixed-wireless network operator EVN Telecom, will receive VND215 billion.
