Contrary to reports that Rogers Communications was the ‘first in the country’ to test a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, it has come to light that Bell Mobility has been testing the 4G technology since the summer, with both rivals working with equipment provider Ericsson. Bell is reportedly ahead of Rogers in development, as it has completed a technical testing phase of LTE data transmission and is currently conducting trials under ‘real’ network conditions in Montreal and Hamilton. Furthermore, according to a Bell Canada representative, the wireless division is planning additional tests with Nokia Siemens Networks, although the operator does not predict a commercial LTE launch until 2012. The latest disclosures from Bell were reported by various technology websites, including Mobilesyrup.com, BoyGeniusReport and the WireReport.
