Swisscom trials LTE in Grenchen

7 Oct 2010

Swisscom has revealed that it is currently trialling Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in Grenchen, and that the network is supporting download speeds of up to 100Mbps. The company expects to make a firm decision on its 4G rollout plans by the end of the year, with the technology to become commercially available sometime in 2011, with the exact timeline depending on how the market develops and the availability of devices and network equipment. In the last few months of 2010, Swisscom plans to increase transmission speeds across its HSPA network to 7.2Mbps (from 3.6Mbps), with 500 base stations being further upgraded to be HSPA+ capable supporting 21Mbps download speeds.
