Napoleon seeks territorial gains

The president and CEO of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Napoleon Nazareno, has told local press that the company is currently deploying 500 additional mobile phone base stations in order to boost coverage in remote rural areas. PLDT has earmarked PHP1.5 billiong for the new cell sites, forming part of the company’s overall capital expenditure plan for 2010 of PHP28.6 billion (USD660 million). The spending is funding, amongst other things, network expansion to support take-up of broadband and higher voice usage.
