France Telecom's quad-play packages under scrutiny

5 Oct 2010

Reuters reports that French regulators are investigating France Telecom’s new all-inclusive quad-play (mobile, fixed voice telephony, broadband and TV) bundles over concerns they distort competition and restrict consumer choice by requiring contracts lasting two years. In June France’s competition authority lifted a ban on cross-selling products and services but warned that it would monitor any new offerings closely. Consumer associations have criticised the two-year contract length, and although Bouygues Telecom and SFR also offer quad-play packages neither require 24-month contracts. France Telecom has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
