Volga to raise FTTB capacity in Samara to 100,000 ports

Russian regional operator VolgaTelecom, which is made up of ten regional telecoms operators (RTOs) in the Privolzhskiy Federal Region, has announced plans to expand its FTTB network in the Samara region to 100,000 broadband ports by the end of the year. The operator has already deployed 65,000 access ports in Samara, Tolyatti, Syzran, Novokuybyshevsk and other locations. VolgaTelecom has also confirmed that it has started testing its IPTV services in the region. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, as at June 2010 VolgaTelecom reported 968,000 broadband subscribers, equating to a 7.7% market share.
