Lattelecom and Huawei ink fibre-optic node deal

Latvian incumbent Lattelecom has announced that it has selected Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies for the supply of access nodes for its fibre-optic network and devices for end-users. The telco expects to install the first nodes by the end of 2010, while the majority will be added during 2011. Commenting on the deal, Lattelecom’s chief technology officer Girts Berzin, noted: ‘The optical network is not only Lattelecom’s business priority but also a nationally important project.’ At present the company’s fibre network is available in eleven cities across the country, with around 274,000 households within the network footprint.
