Russian telecommunications holding company Svyazinvest and Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom are competing to acquire regional operator New Telephone Company (NTK), which operates wireless, fixed line and internet services primarily in the Far Eastern region of Russia. NTK claims to have a subscriber base of 1.4 million. New Telephone Company’s precise shareholding structure is currently unknown, with reports suggesting that South Korea-based KT Corp’s ownership stake is 70%. Analysts estimate that KT Corp’s holding in NTK is worth around USD350 million. The telco is not to be confused with Russian cable network operator National Telecommunications – also sometimes referred to as NTK or NTC.
