GVT to launch services in Rio de Janeiro

Vivendi subsidiary GVT has revealed plans to invest approximately BRL300 million (USD175 million) in order to launch services in Rio de Janeiro. According to Agencia Estado Ltda, the Brazilian operator will make the investment from early January 2011 until 2012. One third of the spending has been earmarked for the launching of fixed telephony and broadband services, and the company also hopes to roll out subscription television services in the city by April 2011.
