Telstra’s NBN discussions with the government moving forward

23 Sep 2010

Australian incumbent Telstra has said that talks between it and the Federal Government over the implementation of an agreement related to the National Broadband Network (NBN) are progressing, with Telstra’s chief financial officer John Stanhope noting: ‘At a practical level, a lot of it has been done.’ The Sydney Morning Herald reported that a non-binding informal financial agreement remained in place between the two in-discussion parties, while Mr Stanhope said that some major aspects of the timing for a more concrete deal were in the hands of the state. Nonetheless, Telstra has said that it is aiming to put some form of proposal relating to either the sale of assets to the NBN or an agreement on the use of its infrastructure to shareholders before June 2011.
