T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT), the Croatian telecoms group which includes cellco T-Mobile Croatia, has revealed that it plans to invest EUR100 million (USD130 million) over the next five years in rolling out 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband infrastructure. However, as T-HT’s board member responsible for engineering/IT solutions, Bozidar Poldrugac, noted to local newspaper Poslovni Dnevnik: ‘For launching the operation of the LTE network we will have to wait for the telecoms regulator HAKOM to issue licences.’

The disclosure follows the joint announcement from T-HT and the local branch of Chinese technology heavyweight Huawei that they are launching an LTE demonstration in the Rijeka region of Croatia. Huawei has already equipped a mobile demonstration centre in Zagreb in cooperation with T-HT which showcases 4G mobile broadband services (incorporating ‘Huawei End2End’ mobile broadband solutions).
