Swedish telecoms equipment provider Ericsson has announced the signing of a five-year agreement with Vodafone Germany, a unit of UK-based Vodafone Group, to manage the operator’s fixed and mobile networks. Under the deal, which is the first time Vodafone Germany has outsourced any part of its telecom network operations, Ericsson will also manage the field services of the operator’s transmission network, as well as fixed core network nodes. The vendor said it will take over the operation and continue current services activities, while ensuring a smooth transition to maintain Vodafone’s high network quality. ‘We see continuous growth in managed services and we are confident that we can help Vodafone free up resources to focus even more on their core business and innovation,’ commented Hans Vestberg, president and CEO of Ericsson, adding: ‘We welcome our new colleagues from Vodafone. They will be key in continuing to build our services business in Germany and contribute to our exciting global services capabilities.’
