China Mobile to pilot TD-LTE in three cities

SinoCast Daily Business Beat is quoting China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou as saying that his company is planning to increase research and development in 4G technologies and will launch three pilot networks before the end of 2010, each comprising around 100 TD-LTE cell towers. China Mobile is also developing mobile phones compatible with FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE platforms in partnership with WordPhone, saying that progress has been made in unifying the standards, chips and terminals. Meanwhile, Wang said TD-LTE is attracting interest around the world, with carriers in several countries including India planning to incorporate the technology in their 4G network construction.
