Telenor linked with Wind bid

9 Sep 2010

The Financial Times reports that Telenor is the latest company to be linked with a bid for Greek cellco Wind Hellas. Wind, currently owned by Egyptian investment vehicle Weather Investments, put itself up for sale in July in the wake of Greece’s debt crisis. Russian cellco Vimpelcom was closely linked with Wind in mid-August, but no announcement was made. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Wind claimed a 23% share of Greece’s wireless subscribers at the end of June 2010, down from 26% twelve months previously.
