Duo launch LTE network

Polish mobile network operators CenterNet and Mobyland have launched a shared Long Term Evolution (LTE) network utilising the 1800MHz frequency band, writes Cellular News. Both cellcos were acquired last year by Aero2, a rival mobile network operator which has been developing an HSPA+ network for over a year and also owns the frequencies for LTE rollouts. CenterNet and Mobyland plan to have 700 LTE base stations in operation by the end of 2010, with the network expected to cover almost 20% of the Polish population by this date. The pair plan to position themselves as wholesale operators and are expected to provide access to their network on an MVNO basis to other providers. Aero2 is owned by Zygmunt Solorz Zak, one of Poland’s richest businessmen and owner of satellite TV broadcaster Cyfrowy Polsat.
