SkyLink in talks to lease Svyazinvest GSM networks

Russian mobile operator SkyLink is in talks to lease GSM capacity from Russian telecommunications holding company Svyazinvest, according to reports on Comnews.ru. SkyLink is required to launch GSM services in 46 Russian regions by December in order to comply with existing licencing requirements. To expand its coverage, SkyLink plans to utilise networks belonging to Svyazinvest’s assorted mobile subsidiaries. Svyazinvest currently owns GSM networks in 29 regions, and its representatives have confirmed that negotiations with SkyLink are already underway.
