The number of registered SIMs in Brazil climbed 1% to 187 million in July, thanks to net additions of 1.89 million users in the month, according to the national regulator Anatel which published its findings on Friday. Monthly net additions surpassed the 1.42 million increase recorded in June 2010, it added. As at 31 July 2010 Vivo Participacoes maintained its leading position in the market with a 30.25% share of subscriptions, up marginally from 30.24% in June. Second place was taken by Telecom Americas (Claro), the local unit of Mexico’s America Movil, with a 25.42% share, up from 25.33% a month earlier. TIM Brasil, the local operating subsidiary of Telecom Italia, took third with 24.05%, up from 24.00%, while fourth place was claimed by Telemar Norte Leste (Oi) which saw its slice of the pie fall from 20.08% to 19.93%.
