Taiwanese WiMAX operators Global Mobile, Tatung InfoComm and Vee Telecom have jointly announced the provision of free WiMAX roaming services on a trial basis until the end of the year. Global Mobile provides WiMAX services in the north of the country, while Tatung and Vee operate in the southern and central regions respectively. The companies say their combined roaming services will cover an approximate subscriber base of between eight and ten million users. As their services run on different technologies, the firms said they have made adjustments to enable interoperability. The country has five licensed WiMAX service providers in total, and the two other operators, Far EasTone and VMAX Telecom, are expected to join the roaming trial later.
