Telekom Austria has announced plans to expand its VDSL network throughout Austria, and intends to cover 1.59 million homes by the end of 2010, rising to two million homes by year-end 2013. The company’s VDSL network currently offers broadband speeds of 30Mbps downstream. Further, the operator has confirmed that it plans to continue implementing its ongoing Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) trials as it awaits the introduction of a satisfactory regulatory framework to secure commercial activation. A FTTH trial in Villach is already underway, whilst a trial in Klagenfurt will commence in October 2010. FTTH trials in Vienna are not scheduled to take place until 1Q11. Combined FTTH coverage in Villach and Klagenfurt is expected to reach 97,000 households.
