PCCW deploys Huawei’s 40Gbps fibre-optic backbone equipment

19 Aug 2010

China’s Huawei Technologies has deployed a 40Gbps Optical Transport Network (OTN) solution for Hong Kong telco PCCW (HKT), enabling bandwidth per wavelength to increase by up to 400% and total transport capacity to jump to 3.2Tbps. According to a press release the configuration enables the transmission of around 700 DVD files per second. Christian Chua, president of Transport Network Product Line, Huawei, stated, ‘The increasing maturity and mass commercial use of 40G efficiently mitigates bandwidth pressures stemming from mass services. We are confident that Huawei’ s 40G OTN solution will enable PCCW to address service development challenges and cater to future service needs.’
