19 Aug 2010

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has recently completed tests of mobile number portability (MNP) in the north-eastern city of Tianjin, reports ChinaTechNews.com, and will launch commercial trials, also in Tianjin, from October this year. The additional trials will be broken down into three phases. In the first year, subscribers can retain their numbers when they switch from networks of more competitive operators to less competitive operators, in year two 2G users can switch between any of the 2G networks, while in the final year 3G users of China Telecom and China Unicom will be able to switch to any 3G network, although China Mobile users are excluded from doing so.
