TRA clarifies Omantel's LTE spectrum is for fixed-wireless broadband

18 Aug 2010

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has issued a statement seeking to ‘dispel any wrong impression’ given by Omantel regarding the company’s 4G LTE spectrum. The watchdog says the frequencies are to be used for fixed-wireless broadband services and not for fully mobile services. ‘It is important to highlight that the so called 4G acronym generally refers to mobile networks. It is, therefore, important to indicate that in Oman the above referred frequency spectrum has been allocated for fixed line wireless services to both Omantel and Nawras (30MHz each), but not for any 4G mobile services,’ stressed the regulator.
