Romanian cellco Orange, the country’s largest operator by subscribers, today launched a pre-paid card for wireless internet access, branded ‘Orange Internet Pre-Pay’. The move brings it in line with rivals Vodafone and Cosmote, both of which already offer similar services, dubbed ‘Cartela’ and ‘Connect Now +’ respectively. Starting at EUR5 (USD6.4), the Orange service offers 500MB of traffic, with alternative products available for EUR10, EUR15 and EUR20 – which offer 1.5Gbps, 3Gbps and 5Gbps of traffic respectively, for periods between 15 and 30 days. Orange claims that 3G services are available in 199 cities across Romania, with top speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Orange Romania reached 10.47 million subscribers in June 2010, 2.36 million of which are registered for 3G use.
