T-Mobile USA ‘will not launch 4G for at least two years’

16 Aug 2010

T-Mobile USA, the United States’ fourth largest cellco by subscribers has announced that it has no intention of building a 4G network in the US for at least two years. Rene Obermann, CEO of T-Mobile USA’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, stated that his company has no plans for a 4G network in the US in the foreseeable future. Despite the actions of its competitors, many of whom have already signposted their 4G intentions by announcing trial dates, Obermann commented: ‘With HSPA+ we’re in a very good position. We still have plenty of capacity, so we are competitive.’ However, T-Mobile customers can still expect continuous upgrades to the existing 3G network, which will reportedly increase transmission speeds to 42Mbps during 2011.
