16 Aug 2010

The Chilean cable operator VTR says that high speed internet packages offering download speeds of 6Mbps and over currently account for around 80% of its sales of internet products, according to a report from BNamericas. Part of the international cable TV group Liberty Global Inc, VTR operates networks in Santiago, Iquique, Antofagasta, Concepcion, Vina del Mar, Valparaiso and Rancagua, as well as a number of other smaller cities, and is the second largest broadband internet provider in Chile in terms of subscribers.

Separately, BNamericas cites a report from Chilean cellular operator Movistar which claims that mobile broadband services were the cellco’s fastest growing product in the first half of 2010. The operator, which is owned by Spanish giant Telefonica, says mobile broadband subscriptions will soon pass the number of fixed broadband customers at its sister company Telefonica Chile.
